Some of My Favorite Things...

I thought I would post some of my favorite teaching things... this includes anything from professional resources to authors and organizing tools... I would love to know what your favorite teaching things are too!!!
1. The Daily Five by the two sisters: Gail Boushey and Joan Moser

I implemented this literacy concept into my classroom 2 years ago and I love it! It focuses on growing true readers! The idea is to focus on building the students' stamina in reading and meeting each child where they are in literacy skills. Love it, Love it, Love it!

2. Lakeshore Learning Materials

I mean, if you teach, you have to love Lakeshore. I just bought 1500.00 worth of products with my National Board money. I can not wait to try out all the new materials and I will let you know what are my favorites. Their products are durable, cute and developmentally appropriate.

3. Apple Ipod Classic

I plan on utilizing 2 of these in my class more this year by downloading more podcasts, videos and books for the children to use individually. There are so many uses for these babies. My kids love to watch podcasts (which you can find free ones on itunes) and watch educational videos.
My big project is to get all my books that are on cd onto my ipods. I like that the children can use them individually so it will cut down on the behavior issues I tend to have at the listening station.
If you have any new and different ideas on how to use ipods in the classroom, I would love to hear them!
I plan on posting the ipods in action as the school years rolls along!

I will add more favorites in the coming days.

Starting a new thing...

ok.
So I am going to start this teaching blog... why? Because, I am sitting here for the second day in a row while my daughter is sick...bored, yes, I said bored... I know I should stop that right now because in about 6 short weeks, I will be busy, busy, busy!!!
I started this blog to share things that happen in my classroom, ideas, suggestions and a place to hear what other teachers are doing in their classes too!!!
I am moving to a new room this year and I guess "starting over" is my theme...
So, tell other elementary school teachers you know out there about the blog so we can share ideas etc.
